AutoBit Tips Vehicle diagnostics

What does the check engine light mean and when is it dangerous to drive further?

The check engine light does not tell you by itself which part is broken. It means that the vehicle's electronics have registered a deviation and that a check is required.

What to do first?

If the vehicle is operating normally, make a note of when the light appeared and whether anything has changed while driving. If the engine shakes, loses power, smokes or the light flashes, the vehicle should not be forced.

Why does diagnostics make sense?

Diagnostics shows memorized and active errors, but it is even more important to associate the fault with the symptoms of the vehicle. The error code itself is not always the final answer.

What to send for an estimate?

Send the vehicle model, year, engine, picture of the lamp and a description of the symptoms. For a more detailed check, check out our service Vehicle Diagnostics.
