AutoBit Tips EGR

EGR error on diagnostics: what does it mean and what are the possible causes?

The EGR system returns some of the exhaust gases to the intake to reduce emissions. When the system is not working properly, the vehicle may pull less, smoke or report a fault.

Is the EGR valve always to blame?

Not necessarily. The fault may be due to a dirty intake, a problem with the sensor, vacuum, installation, or other system.

How does the problem manifest itself?

Common symptoms are poorer response, jerking, engine lights, increased consumption or safe mode.

What's the best first step?

First, diagnostics and parameter checks are done. Only after that is cleaning, repair, replacement or other technical solution arranged.
