Mercedes SAM module: symptoms of malfunction and what to check before replacement
The SAM module in Mercedes vehicles connects fuses, relays, power supply and communication of numerous electrical functions. Depending on the model, the vehicle may have front, rear or multiple SAM modules.
How can a malfunction manifest itself?
Individual lights, wipers, central lock, window lifters or the power supply of a particular device may stop working. Sometimes there are intermittent failures, battery discharge, or multiple communication errors in different systems.
Water and oxidation are not the only cause
Water ingress and oxidation of connectors are common problems, but they are not the only explanation. It is necessary to check the fuses, relays, power supply, grounds, installation and the device controlled by the SAM. A defective consumer can overload the output and damage the repaired module again.
Diagnostics before coding or replacement
The error reading indicates which devices there is no communication with, but the result must be correlated with voltage measurement and installation inspection. If a second module is installed, the compatibility of the part and the coding according to the vehicle equipment shall be checked.
Preparation for Inquiry
Send Mercedes model, year, module designation if available, and a list of functions that do not work. A photo of the label and diagnostic report can speed up the initial assessment.
An overview of all related interventions is available on the page on the Electronic Module Service.
Submit the model, year and a brief description of the problem. We will answer what needs to be checked before the appointment.
