Peugeot and Citroën BSI module: symptoms of problems and proper diagnostics
BSI is the central body module on many Peugeot and Citroën vehicles. It connects locking, lighting, wipers, immobilizer and communication between multiple systems.
Symptoms that may indicate BSI
The central lock, wipers, interior or exterior lighting may work incorrectly. Sometimes the vehicle does not recognize the key, does not turn on, or displays multiple unrelated alerts. Symptoms can be constant or appear after a voltage drop.
Why is the battery particularly important?
BSI is sensitive to unstable power supply and improper battery disconnection. Before concluding about a malfunction, the condition of the battery, alternator charging, fuses, masses and traces of moisture on the connectors are checked.
Repair, coding or replacement?
The solution depends on the actual cause and the condition of the data in the module. Sometimes communication or data restoration is possible, while a replacement module may require adaptation to the vehicle. It is not recommended to purchase a used BSI module before checking compatibility.
What to send to AutoBit?
Send the exact model, year, engine, symptoms, and photo of the BSI module label if affordable. It is also useful to know whether the battery was replaced or discharged immediately before the problem.
An overview of all related interventions is available on the page on the Electronic Module Service.
Submit the model, year and a brief description of the problem. We will answer what needs to be checked before the appointment.
